A Nepali (Bikram Sambat) year usually has 365 or 366 days. There is no fixed leap-year rule like February 29: the published calendar sets each month's length, and the 366-day years don't follow a regular cycle.
Use the free date difference calculator to count days between any two BS or AD dates — it uses the real month lengths.
Is there a leap year in the Nepali calendar?
Not in the Gregorian sense. Bikram Sambat months follow the sun's movement through the zodiac, so each month can be 29, 30, 31 or 32 days long. The months simply add up to 365 days in some years and 366 in others. Between 2070 and 2090 BS, the 366-day years in KhataIN's calendar table are 2073, 2077, 2081, 2083, 2085, 2087.

Why it matters
- Counting days: you can't multiply years by 365 — use the date difference calculator.
- Age: your age in days depends on the real length of each year — try the age calculator.
- Accounting: interest, rent and fiscal-year periods in BS depend on actual month lengths. See Nepal's fiscal year explained.
