Nepal's fiscal year (आर्थिक वर्ष) runs from Shrawan 1 to the last day of Ashadh. Fiscal year 2083/84 started on Shrawan 1, 2083 (17 July 2026) and ends on Ashadh 32, 2084 (17 July 2027).

The fiscal year in Nepal
The government budget, income tax years and most company accounts in Nepal follow the fiscal year from Shrawan 1 to Ashadh end. It is written with both BS years, such as 2083/84.
| Fiscal year | Starts | Ends |
|---|---|---|
| 2082/83 | Shrawan 1, 2082 | Ashadh end, 2083 (16 July 2026) |
| 2083/84 | Shrawan 1, 2083 (17 July 2026) | Ashadh 32, 2084 (17 July 2027) |
Because Ashadh can have 31 or 32 days, the last day of the fiscal year is not always "Ashadh 31" — use the real month length for that year.
Why it starts in Shrawan
The federal budget is presented in Jestha (late May), and the new fiscal year begins after Ashadh so the budget can take effect from Shrawan 1. New tax rates set by the budget normally apply from that date.
Key deadlines tied to the fiscal year
Under the Income Tax Act, 2058:
- Advance tax instalments for taxpayers who must pay them are due by the end of Poush (40% of the estimated tax), Chaitra (70%) and Ashadh (100%).
- Income tax returns are due within three months after the fiscal year ends — by the end of Ashwin. An extension of up to three months can be requested.
These are general rules; your obligations depend on your income and registration. See income tax in Nepal for rates, and confirm your own deadlines with the Inland Revenue Department.
Keep records by fiscal year
Accounting software that understands BS dates keeps each fiscal year's books separate and closes the year on the right day. KhataIN's Nepali calendar and date tools use the same BS table as its accounting.
