Why "subtract 56 years 8 months" goes wrong
BS months are 29 to 32 days long and change every year, while English months follow a fixed pattern. A fixed offset lands close, but not always on the right day. For Mangsir 15, 2055 BS the correct English date is 1 December 1998 — a shortcut can easily give the day before or after. On official forms, one day matters.
