To work out your age from a Nepali (BS) date of birth, count the completed years, then the completed months, then the remaining days — using the real length of each BS month. The free age calculator does this for you.
Enter your date of birth in BS or AD in the free age calculator — no sign-in.
Step by step
- Write both dates in BS — your date of birth and the date you want your age on (usually today, or the deadline in a notice).
- Count completed years. Subtract the birth year from the current year. If this year's birthday hasn't come yet, take one away.
- Count completed months since your last birthday.
- Count the remaining days since the same day of the last completed month. BS months have 29–32 days, so use the actual length of that month.
A worked example
Date of birth: Shrawan 10, 2058 BS. Age on Bhadra 29, 2083 BS:
- Last birthday: Shrawan 10, 2083 → 25 completed years.
- From Shrawan 10 to Bhadra 10, 2083 → 1 completed month.
- From Bhadra 10 to Bhadra 29 → 19 days.
Age: 25 years, 1 month and 19 days.
Many forms in Nepal ask for your date of birth in BS as written on your citizenship certificate, and job notices state the date on which age is counted. Always count up to the date the notice gives — not today's date.
Why BS and AD ages can look different
The total number of days you have lived is the same in both calendars. But BS months start around the middle of English months and vary from 29 to 32 days, so the "months and days" part can differ by a day or so when you count in BS instead of AD.
